Support Our Community: iT1 Sponsors Ronald McDonald House Dinner

iT1 Source is not just a provider of enterprise technological solutions. We also pride ourselves on being involved in our community and helping the less fortunate whenever possible. It is in this philanthropic spirit that our organization will host a sponsored dinner at 4 p.m. on August 19 at the Phoenix area Ronald McDonald House.

Ronald McDonald House: Helping families for decades
Over 40 years ago, the first Ronald McDonald House opened its doors to provide a home away from home for the families of children staying in the hospital. The mission to create such a place began in the early ’70s, when Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill’s daughter Kim was being treated for leukemia at the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital. The Hill family noticed that a large number of other families sleeping in waiting rooms and in their children’s rooms in an effort to stay close and provide support. Hill and his family joined with Dr. Audrey Evans of the hospital’s Oncology department in an effort to find a “home-away-from-home” for the families of children receiving intensive or long-term medical care.

This initiative enabled them to connect with Philadelphia area McDonald’s owners who supported this greater mission. The operators of several local restaurants came together and held a fundraiser to establish the new home Evans and the Hill family were seeking to create.

Because of the ties to the well-known restaurant and its positive mascot, the team decided to name the house after the famed character Ronald McDonald, and were able to open the first location in Philadelphia in 1974.

Now, decades later, the Hill family’s mission lives on. There are now more than 300 Ronald McDonald Houses, not only in the U.S. but across 57 countries around world, providing a welcoming place for the families of children staying in the hospital.

“Our entire team is involved in this initiative, and we are enthusiastic about supporting the mission of the Ronald McDonald House.”

Volunteering for the greater good
The Ronald McDonald House welcomes volunteers, and iT1 Source is very excited to be a part of this worthwhile cause. At this event, members of our team will be helping to provide, prepare and serve the families staying at the Phoenix Chapter Ronald McDonald House. Each of our volunteers is also donating funding in addition to their time to ensure that the meal is coming at no cost at all for the 40 to 45 guests expected to be in attendance.

This is just one of several events iT1 Source has planned throughout the year as part of our Project iT1 – Teaming For A Cause. Our entire team is involved in this initiative, and we are very enthusiastic about supporting the mission of the Ronald McDonald House.

The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on August 19 at the Phoenix Chapter Ronald McDonald House, 501 E. Roanoke Ave., Phoenix.
